Appearance
A small rhizomatous begonia, 15 to 20 cm tall. Its general appearance is that of Begonia goegoensis but smaller. The leaves are light green. The blade, about 7 to 8 cm across, is peltate, round and hairy, slightly puckered, with a slightly scalloped edge. The underside is pale green and the green petiole is very hairy. The inflorescence is white and bisexual. The flowers are few: the males have four tepals, two outer ones larger than the other two, and the females five. The fruit has three unequal wings.
Culture
It is a rather fragile plant, hard to keep through the winter if temperatures are too low. This begonia needs high humidity and fairly high temperatures. It is therefore best grown in a terrarium, but one large enough to let it develop well. In cultivation it flowers in spring.
Propagation
Petiole cuttings are rather slow but root well. It is easy from seed if you can get some – seed is fairly hard to obtain in cultivation.
