The begonia collection of the City of Lyon Botanical Garden was listed as a ‘National Collection’ in 2010 by the CCVS (Conservatoire des Collections Végétales Spécialisées). The collection dates back to the 19th century, when the Parc de la Tête d’Or was the meeting place of Lyon’s horticulturists, some of whose hybrids are still preserved. Today, 650 botanical taxa are grown in a greenhouse that is closed to the public. However, in May the botanical garden holds flower shows in the large greenhouses, where they can be admired. Many species are also included in the new plantings in the hothouses and large greenhouses. Otherwise, please announce your visit using the Botanical Garden’s contact details.
