Mark the female flower (with a tie or label) and note the pollination date.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat pollination up to three separate times. With some species, staminate flowers bloom before or after pistillate ones; so self-fertilization is impossible.<\/li>\n<li>Fertilisation has probably succeeded if the female flower loses its tepals a few days after pollination.<\/li>\n<li>It is useful to use flowers from different specimens (or better still, different strains) of the same species.<\/li>\n<li>You can also collect male flowers (when the stamens are releasing pollen) and keep them in the freezer; you can then wait until the following year to pollinate, which is useful for species whose female flowers open well before the male flowers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How do I preserve seeds?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Allow the fruit to dry completely in an open container (up to two weeks).<\/li>\n<li>When they are completely dry (the seeds fall out), sieve them to remove all plant debris (especially capsule remains); use a fine sieve.<\/li>\n<li>The seeds can then be put in packets (do not use plastic bags, but paper packets, such as stamp envelopes).<\/li>\n<li>Label the packets carefully with the species name and the harvest date (and, if desired, the donor\u2019s name); prepare and label the packet before putting the seeds in, so as not to crush them.<\/li>\n<li>Put the packets in an airtight box and keep refrigerated.<\/li>\n<li>Some people keep them in the freezer (-18\u00b0C).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>List on the AFABEGO website<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The list of seeds offered in the seed bank on the AFABEGO website is updated as soon as some run out or, on the contrary, when seeds of new species are donated.<\/li>\n<li>The date of the last update is always shown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What next?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>For sowing, see the cultivation guide.<\/li>\n<li>Donors would like to have news about your sowing, success or failure.
